Gall stones or Cholelithiasis refers to formation of stones in the gall bladder. A vast majority of gall stones form in the gall bladder and then migrate to common bile duct. Cholesterol is the major component of these stones. Other components are bilirubin, calcium and protein matrix. Gall stones are classified into cholesterol and pigment stones. Cholesterol stones are the most common type encountered in developed countries, whereas pigment stones are found more frequently in developing countries.
